About the event
Folks on Graemesay are gathering together to get creative!
We’ve a wealth of skills between us, everything from rag rug making to card making. And we’ve confessed to squirrelling away stashes of craft materials in boxes just waiting to find a use!
Tea & chatter lifts our spirits & motivates us to get going with something new in the good company of other folk.
We meet every two weeks in the warm & cosy Community Hall fortnightly on Tuesdays from 1 till 3.
We bring along whatever we’ve been working on & show folks how it’s progressing, or ask help from someone else if it’s going wrong! Anyone can come along & join in or just watch.
We welcome in visitors who can show us their craft work & we bounce ideas & hatch plans for new inspiring projects.
We sometimes use our ‘big screen’ to get ideas from online craft classes & resources to keep our inspiration fuelled!
We’ve picked some projects to focus on this Autumn (but you can do your own thing! ) :
‘Memory Fabrics’ - Slow Stitching a small panel using scraps of vintage cloth or lace from clothing or household fabrics that hold personal memories. Maybe the panel could become a cover for an album of old photographs.
‘Rag Rugs’ - reviving the traditional way of recycling cloth to make new rugs for the house. No tools needed, just lots of surplus cloth & some hessian. If a rug seems too big to tackle, a small cushion cover may be a more manageable size.
‘Winter Wreaths’ - using natural materials to make a rustic wreath from things you find in the garden such as ivy, honeysuckle, willow, grasses & brushwood. Jazz it up if you like with some found items such as ribbon & coloured paper or decorative ornaments.
